Testing

5-14 Levels

The 5-14 Curriculum is organised in 6 Levels, A to F. When children join Primary 1 they are said to be, "Working towards Level A". In other words they begin at Level A and work their way through each of the 6 Levels until the end of second year at high school when, in most cases, they will have completed Level F.

Each of the 6 Levels has associated content and is a description of the learning which children will undertake.

National Assesment

Although all subjects are taught in the 6 levels described above, National Assessments are given each year in only 3 curriculum areas:

Reading Writing Mathematics

Children may be assessed in any year group and at any time of the year although most formal assessment will normally take place between October and the middle of June. Children are tested when two criteria have been met:

a pupil has substantially completed the work of a level
AND
the teacher judges that the child has understood this work
Results Information

A school's National Assessment results relate to pupils in P 3, 4, 6 and 7 who achieve the expected scores in relation to their year group. For example an overall school result of 75% means that 75% of the children in :

P 3 have reached or exceeded Level A
P 4 have reached or exceeded Level B
P 6 have reached or exceeded Level C
P 7 have reached or exceeded Level D

The table below shows our results for the last 3 years. (Please note that the current year's results are incomplete until the end of the session as assessments continue to be given until the middle of June.)
