Many people say that the Mona Lisa is the world's best painting. It's certainly the most famous. It was painted by Leonardo da Vinci about 500 years ago.

The woman in the painting is the wife of Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanoli del Giocondo a rich Italian with a very long name! Her name was Lisa di Antonio Maria di Noldo Gherardini. Imagine having to write that on the front of every jotter! It took Leonardo over 4 years to paint the picture and she often had to sit still for long hours while he worked. Leonardo hired singers and musicians to keep her amused.
