PTA - What is it?
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. We are an active group of parents and school staff who give a little time to help organise fundraising events and fun activities for the school community. We have a constitution which describes how we are run – you can download it from the link below. Most schools have some sort of PTA organisation.
Who?
We have a committee consisting of parents and school staff. In addition we have a list of helpers who volunteer for various things eg making teas at an event, selling raffle tickets, baking biscuits, collecting donations, setting out chairs for our talent contest. This help is invaluable! Could you help us?
Where and when?
At the start of each school year we elect our Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. Then we meet regularly each term in school to organise fundraising activities. Everyone is welcome to these meetings but don't worry if you can't make it to every meeting, Events take place every term. We have a notice board in the school foyer which advertises PTA events and displays other PTA information.
How do we raise money for the school?
Coffee evenings, fairs, school mugs and tea towels, talent shows, competitions, discos and so on. Let us hear your ideas!
What do we do with the money we raise?
Last year the PTA raised over £3900 due to the efforts of parents, staff, pupils and the community in and around Duns. In the past we have helped fund trips and the pupils’ Christmas party, and hosted Santa’s Grotto. We have bought equipment that the staff have requested. For example: a technology trolley for learning about electricity, 3D models of the skeleton and organs, books and CD players, and many others items.

If you have a couple of hours to spare or have any special interests or talents, please let us know by completing the form below. We can always use more helpers with a little energy and enthusiasm. The PTA is a great way to meet new people and get involved in the life of the school, while also helping to raise large amounts of money for a great cause. We hope to hear from you! |
